Slight rise in fresh COVID-19 cases noticed in Chennai – The Hindu

Chennai witnessed a slight rise in COVID-19 infections with 19 fresh cases on Sunday. On Saturday, fresh infections in the district had stood at 12, while on Friday it was 11. So far, the district has recorded 7,51,013 cases of which 7,41,806 persons have been declared to have recovered.

In the neighbouring Chengalpattu, five more cases were identified. As on date, 53 persons are under treatment while eight persons have recovered.

In a day, 34 persons tested positive for the infection in Tamil Nadu, taking the tally to 34,52,681. The Health Department tested 29,435 persons using RT-PCR. More women than men were identified with the infection. A total of 11 men and 23 women were found to be infected.

Ten other districts also recorded cases. One case each was recorded in Kanniyakumari, the Nilgiris, Salem, Madurai, Thanjavur, Theni, Tiruppur, Tiruchi, Vellore and Villupuram. As on date, 394 persons are under treatment, including 139 in Chennai.

In a day, as many as 54 more persons were declared to have recovered from the infection. Till date, 34,14,262 persons have recovered from COVID-19 across the State, according to the daily bulletin from the Directorate of Public Health.

The State did not record any deaths due to the infection, and the number of persons who succumbed to the infection stood at 38,025 as on date.
