Three die due to asphyxiation in Chennai’s Annanur – The Hindu

Three persons died allegedly due to asphyxiation and one more is in a critical condition  on Friday morning when they entered one by one into a sump in Annanur near  Thirumullaivoyal.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Prem Kumar, 50 of Sivasakthi Nagar, Annanur cleaned the sump at his house with the help of a few conservancy workers on Thursday. At 9.30 p.m, he entered into the sump to check the work done the previous day. He suddenly collapsed inside and his son Pradeep Kumar,  18 who jumped into the sump to rescue his father also collapsed.

On hearing the commotion, Promodh, 40 and Saranathan, 50 who are neighbours also climbed down into the sump and fainted. Other neighbours rushed to the house rescued the four from the sump who were unconscious. They were rushed in an Ambulance to Government Kilpauk Hospital.

Police personnel from Thirumullaivoyal and fire service personnel from Fire Station Ambattur reached the spot and conducted investigation.  A senior police officer said three of them were declared brought dead at the hospital and one more is in critical condition.
