IIT-Madras cluster adds 19 more Covid cases; Chennai logs 37 new cases – Times of India

CHENNAI: Nineteen more students from IIT-M tested positive for Covid-19, pushing the cluster tally to 79 on Monday, when Tamil Nadu added 55 new cases.
On Monday, chief minister MK Stalin reviewed strategies for management of Covid-19 and preparations made by the districts for a special mega camp. On May 8, the state will have at least 1 lakh vaccination camps targeting more than one crore adults who are due for the second dose of vaccine against coronavirus.
Despite the marginal increase in fresh cases over the last few days, the test positivity rate in the state is around 0.2%. At least four districts – Ariyalur, Dharamapuri, Kallakurichi and Perambalur – have reported no new cases for nearly 28 days. On Monday, 27 people were discharged from hospitals and the active cases rose to 362. The state continued to report zero deaths due to the viral infection.
While Chennai reported 37 new cases, Chengalpet reported five followed by three each in Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga. Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Pudukottai, Salem and Vellore reported one new case each. Of the 362 active cases, 16 were admitted to hospitals across the state. Among these four patients – two in Vellore and one each in Kanyakumari and Chengalpet – were admitted to the intensive care unit.
