20-year-old rapes home-alone woman at knifepoint in Chennai – Times of India

Chennai News
CHENNAI: A 20-year-old man stalked a 43-year-old woman for three days from her workplace to her Adyar home, found out she lived alone and raped her at knifepoint on Saturday.
The chilling crime came to light on Sunday when the woman filed a police complaint. The stalker had shot nude photos of the woman and threatened to make them public if she told the police. Police said the man had spotted the woman at the Triplicane MRTS station a week ago when she was returning from work. He then kept watch at Triplicane and for three days followed her when she took the train to Velachery in the evening.

Police said the man realized the woman lived alone on the first floor of a house. On Saturday, the man found the ground floor apartment was locked when he arrived minutes after the woman reached home. He knocked on the woman’s door on the first floor and told her he had come looking for a house for rent in the locality. He asked her for water and, as soon as she turned to fetch it, he forced his way in and locked the door.
The man raped the woman at knifepoint and left after taking photos of her in the nude. An investigating officer said the man sent a missed call to his own number from the woman’s phone and saved her number.
The same night he called to threaten her not to lodge a police complaint. He also threatened to upload her photos online.
The woman lodged a complaint at the Adyar All Women Police station (AWPS). “Initially she was hesitant to lodge a complaint, but later she realized he would blackmail her,” said an officer.
Using his phone number, police traced and arrested the man identified as S Vishal of Palaniamman Koil sixth street, Triplicane. Vishal has been booked for rape and remanded in judicial custody.
(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
