Slight drop in new Tamil Nadu Covid cases, 185 reported – Times of India

CHENNAI: Fresh cases in Tamil Nadu declined marginally to 185 on Thursday compared to 195 cases it recorded on Wednesday. However, cases in Chennai were almost stagnant at 94 – one less than its tally 24 hours ago. Active cases rose to 1077 among which 51 people were admitted to hospitals.
Chennai, which is now the emerging hotspot has more than 23 clusters in families, apartment complexes, workplaces and educational institutions,health minister Ma Subramanian said. “The increase is because people do notfollow Covid appropriate behaviour such as wearing a mask even in crowded spaces.We encourage all people to take vaccinations including boosters,” he said.
While boosters will be given free of cost in government vaccinationcentres for the elderly, others must approach private vaccination centres, hesaid. “We have asked the centre to provide boosters free of cost across allages,” he said.
After Chennai, fresh cases were the highest in adjoining districts- Chengalpet (24), Kancheepuram (19), Tiruvallur(15). All other districts reported cases in single digits. Coimbatore reportednine cases followed by six in Nilgiris, two each in Dharmapuri, Madurai and Salem.Districts including Dindigul, Erode, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Tiruvarur,Tuticorin, Tiruppur and Trichy reported one new case each. Two international passengersone each from Kenya and the USA and one from Kerala tested positive.
