CHENNAI: Nine days after the death of a Class XII girl in a private school in Kallakurichi, her parents have finally agreed to receive her body and perform the last rites.
Recording the submissions made by advocate R Shankara Subbu representing the parents, Madras high court judge Justice N Sathish Kumar directed them to receive the body before 7am on Saturday and complete the last rites before 6pm.
This apart, the court directed forensic experts of JIPMER in Puducherry to examine the autopsy report of the girl and file a report to it.
The girl’s body will be taken to her native place at Veppur in Cuddalore district, where her parents have planned to conduct the last rites. Police would hand over her body to her parents on Saturday morning.
Inspector-general of police central zone Santhosh Kumar would prevent possible protests and other untoward incidents while handing over her body.
IGP west zone R Sudhakar would follow the ambulance carrying body up to Kallakurichi district border.
IGP north zone P C Thenmozhi would travel with the girl’s body to Veppur.
The girl was found dead, with injuries on her body, on the school hostel premises on July 14 morning. Following her death, violence broke out on July 17. A mob torched the school buildings and vehicles.
