CHENNAI: Two veterinary college students pursuing their second year attempted to die by suicide by consuming Mercuric sulfate on Wednesday. Police suspect that the two girls took this extreme step after they were scolded by their hostel warden for returning late in the night.
The warden also informed their parents about them coming back late to the hostel. Police said that the two students are stable now. The incident came to light after the two students, a native of Arcot in Vellore and Madurai didn’t turn up for Thursday morning class.
As there was no response when their room doors were knocked, the hostel authorities broke open the door to find the two girls lying unconscious. Soon, they were rushed to the hospital. Police, after investigation, said that the duo had managed to get Mercuric sulfate from the college laboratory.
