Chennai News Today, Tamil Nadu News highlights: Three men, engaged to clean a huge septic tank at a resort in Sriperumbudur in Chennai, died of asphyxiation on Friday, police said.

According to a report by news agency PTI, the deceased identified as Ranganathan (51), Naveen Kumar (30) and Thirumalai (18) were exposed to the toxic fumes of the sewer gas when they descended into the septic tank and fell into it, police said.

In other development, the Indian Navy intercepted a ‘suspicious’ boat on the Palk Bay near the India-Sri Lanka International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).

The Navy ship, as per standard operating procedures, fired warning shots to stop the boat and one of the crew onboard the suspicious boat is reported to have sustained an injury.

Greater Chennai Police are turning the city into a fortress with close to 18,000 personnel from police various departments set to be deployed for security in several areas where people are expected to gather in large numbers for shopping as well as to commute to their native places for Diwali. Based on the orders of Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal, the forces will be stationed in key areas in the city, including T Nagar, Pondy Bazaar, Purasawalkam, Mylapore, Flower Bazaar, Washermanpet and Koyambedu, where huge crowds are anticipated.
