Chennai: Private buses operating services from Chennai to Kerala are extorting high ticket price in view of the Christmas and New Year vacation. Currently, the highest rate charged from Chennai to Ernakulam is over Rs 4000. Rs 3,750 has been charged for the travel from Chennai to Kozhikode.
The flight ticket rate from Chennai to Kochi will be below Rs 4000 if the passengers pre-booked the ticket for non-rush days. Hence, the ticket rate in private bus is presently higher than the flight ticket price.
Meanwhile, the KSRTC bus ticket cost for Chennai- Ernakulam service is Rs 1474. Rs 4000 has been exceeded in the buses with sleeper berths. However, the private buses with no sleeper berth facilities are also charging a high price compared to KSRTC services.
The highest rush is expected on December 23 from Chennai to Kerala. All the seats of the two KSRTC buses conducting services from Chennai on this day has been already booked.
The passengers have requested KSRTC to launch more services in view of the huge rush. However, the corporation has decided to operate only a special service on Chennai- Ernakulam route and another on Chennai- Thiruvananthapuram route.
The passengers are troubled by the usual hike in bus ticket rates during the festive seasons.
