Retired judge, advocate appointed as members of TNHRC – Times of India

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday appointed former judge of the Madras high court Justice Raja Elango and advocate V Kannadasan as members of the Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission (TNHRC).
The decision was made in the selection committee convened on Tuesday in the state secretariat. The meeting was headed by chief minister M K Stalin. Tamil Nadu assembly speaker M Appavu participated in the meeting.
During 1996-2001, Justice Raja Elango served as Chennai city public prosecutor and as a special public prosecutor for corruption cases. Later, he was appointed as the state public prosecutor and was elevated as a judge of the Madras high court in 2006.
In 2010, he was transferred to the Andhra Pradesh high court and later to the Telangana high court.
Advocate Kannadasan, a native of Mayiladuthurai, has more than 30 years of professional experience. He has specialised in civil, criminal and human rights cases and an expert in prison and prisoner rights issues. He served as special public prosecutor for human rights cases from 2006 to 2011.
