Chennai: A group of pick pocketers went on a spree stealing valuables and cash from a few people who participated in the Christmas celebrations at Vanagaram on Monday.
Since it was crowded, it came handy for them to target them. While they tore one of AIADMK functionaries’ pockets and stole cash, they escaped with a mobile phone from another AIADMK cadre. Some of the reporters and cameraman, who were gathered to cover the function, too lost cash. They managed to flick purses of some of the women cadres too.
Based on complaints from them, Maduravoyal police have launched a hunt for the miscreants. Police are checking the CCTV footage to nab the accused. Since it was a huge function, police suspect them to have planned and targeted the crowd when they were engrossed in the function. Police suspect the hands of previous offenders in the incident. Usually people from other districts arrive at the city during festive time and indulge in such crimes.
