Chennai Tasmac liquor shops reopen to lukewarm response from customers – Times of India

Chennai News

CHENNAI: Tasmac liquor shops in Chennai, which had remained closed for 145 days, reopened on Tuesday to lukewarm response from customers. Though there were many people in queues at 10am when the shops opened, soon some outlets became deserted.
Customers stood in queues to get their coupons issued at coupon distribution points near the shops. The number of coupons is limited to 500 per shop per day. Only 50 coupons are distributed every hour.
Though coupon system to cap the number of customers to 500 was implemented, it mattered a little for customers since they purchased alcohol without any hassles.
Security was beefed up before the liquor shops were opened. There was barricade. Police ensured that tipplers followed social distancing norms. However, there were issues over social distancing at some shops, where people could be seen queuing up in close quarters.
A total of 640 shops situated within the Greater Chennai Police jurisdiction reopened.
