Chennai Metro Rail services resume; minister travels in first train – Times of India

CHENNAI: After a break of more than five months, Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) resumed its train services on Monday with the first train starting at 7am.
State industries minister M C Sampath took the first train from Airport metro station to Washermenpet.
Several officegoers took trains from stations like Thirumangalam, Shenoy Nagar and Alandur.
CMRL revised train timings to 7am to 8pm from 8am to 8pm following requests from officegoers who wanted to the service to reach their workplace.
CMRL is operating trains every five minutes during peak hours and every 10 minutes during non-peak hours.
It also launched travel card readers and QR-code ticketing service to give passengers cashless and contactless ride and prevent them from queuing up at ticket counters and in front of the ticket vending machine. The new ticketing system will also save passengers’ time.
While ACs are operated around 27 degrees Celsius and efforts are made to draw more fresh air and filter microorganisms in the air at underground stations, marking stickers have been put up both at stations and in trains for passengers to maintain physical distance.
Passengers should wear masks. They are screened for body temperature and are given hand sanitizers when they enter the station.
