Chennai: As Tamil Nadu is witnessing a surge in the number of daily COVID cases, one of the key contributors to the same has been Chennai. On Monday, according to the state health bulletin, Tamil Nadu recorded 33,075 positive cases which bring the state’s count to 16,31,291. Chennai logged 6,150 cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. 

In a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 infections, the city administration has intensified the COVID protocols. As per the new guidelines, e-registration is mandatory for people travelling within the city. 

Chennai Police has divided the city into 12 districts and 348 sectors. According to the Indian Express report, on border areas, there will be a total of 13 checkpoints and 153 additional checkpoints within city limits to keep a close eye. 

Chennai city administration has made e-registration mandatory for travelling within the city after the permitted hours from 6:00 am to 10:00 am.

The report further added, there will be 309 four-wheelers, 205 two-wheelers will be deployed to monitor the new SOPs. 

The Greater Chennai Police has also made arrangements for people to buy necessary groceries, vegetables, and other essential items within their sector. 

Vaccination drive in Tamil Nadu

According to the COVID bulletin by Union Health Ministry, Tamil Nadu so far has vaccinated  69,95,480 beneficiaries against the deadly contagious coronavirus. As per the latest data, 50,83,368 people got their first jab while 19,12,112 beneficiaries took the second jab of the Covid-19 vaccine.
