Covid-19: Coimbatore tops list of cases again, Chennai second – Times of India

CHENNAI: Fresh cases of Covid-19 continued to pile up in western and central districts of Tamil Nadu, as the state added 26,513 new cases and 490 deaths to its tally on Tuesday. The state’s active case count was 2.9 lakh. Coimbatore topped the list with 3,332 new cases followed by Chennai at 2,467. Four other districts — Erode (1653), Tirupur (1338), Salem (1140) and Chengalpet (1106) — reported more than 1,000 cases each. With 227 cases, Perambalur had the least number of fresh cases. Over the past 20 days, eight western districts have reported 73% growth in cases, while central zone has reported a 67% rise in daily cases. South and northern districts, particularly Chennai, have reported decline in numbers. The state, which reported around 220 deaths on April11, is now recording at least 480 deaths per day.
