CHENNAI: The Madras high court on Friday granted conditional bail to DMK’s Cuddalore MP T R V S Ramesh who was arrested on murder charges. The case relates to the murder of a worker in his cashew unit by his associates.
Allowing MP’s bail application, Justice M Nirmal Kumar directed prison authorities to enlarge him on bail.
Ramesh alleged that the complaint against him was without any basis and that it was the handwork of local politicians whom he had defeated in the elections.
According to the prosecution, K Govindarasu, 55, of Melmampattu village had been working as a labourer at the Panikankuppam cashew processing unit, owned by the petitioner.
On September 19, Govindarasu, while returning home from work, was stopped and questioned by another employee regarding a theft at the cashew unit. The employee reportedly further accused Govindarasu of stealing cashew nuts from the processing unit. Subsequently, five men and Ramesh assaulted Govindarasu causing visible injuries on his face and neck. On September 20, Govindarasu was found dead.
