Chennai: Elderly couple found hanging at Kilkattalai home – Times of India

Chennai News

Chennai: An elderly couple killed themselves at Kilkattalai on Friday morning. Police said the couple did not have any children.
The deceased were identified as Nambirajan, 76, a retired official of a private company, and his wife Pappa, 76, a retired teacher.
Police said after their retirement, they were lonely and had to call their relatives occasionally to help them out. Nambirajan had a few health ailments, while his wife Pappa was a cancer patient. Both of them were undergoing treatment for their ailments and were taking care of each other, with some help from neighbours or relatives.
Nambirajan’s brother Subramani, who lives in the same locality, used to visit him frequently to keep them calm and composed. He used to take them to a hospital and buy medicines. Police said that the couple were worried about their ill health of late, and the lack of a permanent care-giver.
Subramani told cops that the couple had earlier talked about having suicidal tendencies as they had no children.
On Thursday evening, Subramani called up his brother, but his calls went unanswered. In a few minutes, he reached their home to check on them, but found the door bolted from inside. He peeped through a window only to find them hanging from the ceiling.
He informed Madipakkam police, who sent the bodies for a post mortem to Chromepet government hospital. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
The couple did not leave behind any suicide note.
