HC clears BHMS course admissions in Chennai college – Times of India

Chennai News

Chennai: Coming to the rescue of the city-based Venkateshwara Homeopathic Medical College, the Madras high court has set aside a Union government order denying permission for 100 seats for Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) course for the academic year 2018-19.
The college is affiliated to Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University and is recognised by the Central Council for Homeopathy (CCH).
According to counsel for the college, the institute was started in the year 2000 with an annual intake of 50 seats from BHMS course and in 2002, the council Öhad accorded permission to increase admission capacity to 100 seats, but the college did not avail itself of the facility till 2013 as there was no demand for the course.
After 2013, based on the approval already granted by CCH, the college with the help of court orders admitted 100 seats. In 2018, CCH conducted a surprise inspection at the college on behalf of Ayush ministry after which the ministry passed an order denying permission for 50 seats. The college moved the court challenging this order.
Justice Krishnan Ramasamy, before whom the petition came up for hearing, noted that the central government had partially approved the recommendation of the CCH, allowing admission in BHMS course for the session 2018-19 with intake capacity allowed earlier, subject to the removal of deficiencies reflected in the report of the inspection.
The court accepted the contention of the counsel who appeared for the college that nowhere the CCH has recommended the petitioner (college) to be put on no admission, but on the other hand, recommended for admission, subject to clearance of deficiencies, which are found not sustainable.
