Land grab case: Madras high court grants conditional bail to former Tamil Nadu minister D Jayakumar – Times of India

CHENNAI: The Madras high court on Friday granted conditional bail to former AIADMK minister D Jayakumar in a case registered against him for alleged offence of land grabbing. Since he has already secured bail in another case registered for attempt to murder, he will be out of the prison soon.
Granting bail in the land grab case, Justice A D Jagadish Chandira directed Jayakumar to stay in Trichy and appear before the Cantonment police station on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for two weeks. Thereafter, he has been directed to appear before the Chennai CCB police every Monday until further orders.
Jayakumar was arrested on February 19, on charges of assaulting, disrobing and parading a DMK cadre who went to vote during the urban local body polls. Later, the case was altered and an attempt to murder charge was also included in the FIR. The next day he was booked for protesting without permission on the day of polling for the urban local body election.
On February 25, the Chennai CCB police booked Jayakumar for land grabbing. It was alleged that he had threatened a landowner and purchased a property worth Rs 5 crore at a cheaper price.
