CHENNAI: Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel on Tuesday secured a 36-year-old man for carrying Rs 78 lakh unaccounted cash and handed him over to the income tax department.
Interestingly the man, identified as B Venkata Sathish of Mangalagiri near Guntar in Andhra Pradesh, travelled without a valid ticket.
RPF personnel intercepted the man when he reached Chennai Central in Coromandel Express on Tuesday evening. Since he did not produce a valid ticket, he was asked to pay a fine. However, since the man claimed that he did not have money with him, RPF police searched his bag and found bundles of cash in it.
Inquiries revealed that Venkata Sathish works for a jeweller in Guntur. His employer sent him to Chennai with the cash to buy gold. However, since he did not have valid documents to account for the cash, the RPF handed him over to income tax department officials.
