Chennai News Live Updates Today, November 10: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning at one or two places over Thiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram districts of Tamilnadu during the next three hours today. Light to Moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over Ranipet, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Ramanathapuram, Tenkasi, Thirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts of Tamilnadu; Puducherry and Karaikal in the next three hours.
RMC in Chennai on Tuesday forecast rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the next five days. Chennai and its neighbouring districts including Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Tiruvalluvar are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for three days, on November 10, 11 and 12. According to the meteorological centre, a cyclonic circulation lies over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean and extends up to 4.5 km above mean sea level.
In other news, the DMK will file a review petition in the Supreme Court against its five-judge bench verdict upholding 10 per cent EWS quota in jobs and education. DMK general secretary and Water Resources minister Durai Murugan called the SC verdict “a blow to equality and social justice” envisaged by the Constitution. Murugan said the party will file a review petition in the SC to protect the rights of 82 per cent SC/ST and OBC people and “to ensure that Mandal Commission reservation stays”.
