The saffron shawl was removed from MGR’s statue by the police
By Akshaya Nath: A statue of AIADMK’s founder MG Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR, was adorned with a saffron shawl near the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court in Chennai. The statue was inaugurated by former chief minister J Jayalalithaa in 2001 and after her death in 2019, her statue was placed next to MGR’s.
Several followers pay tribute to the two statues. This has not gone down well with the local functionaries who have filed a police complaint.
