Proper social distancing in MTC buses, traffic pileup on roads mark beginning of Unlock 4.0 in Chennai – Times of India

CHENNAI: Roads in Chennai saw traffic pileups as unlock 4.0 began on Monday. Traffic blocks were seen on the Anna Salai, OMR and other busy stretches.
Traffic police kept a watch on the vehicle flow during peak hours and stopped offenders.
After a gap of more five months, MTC operated its regular bus services. The buses were plying with one passenger occupying a seat.
A half litre bottle of sanitiser was tied to a handle near the backdoor of the buses. Bus crew faced a tough task of reminding passengers about using sanitizers and wearing of masks. The presence of women was minimal in the buses.

Parks saw several morning walkers, with most of them being elderly people. There were less number woman walkers.
There was no huge rush at temples. Around 1,500 devotees visited Kapaleeswarar Temple at Mylapore between 5am and 10am. More than 400 people worshiped at Sri Parthasarathyswamy Temple in Triplicane during the same time.
Neighbourhood markets were bustling with customers.
Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) officials visited big shopping complexes and places of worship on Tuesday to check arrangements made.
A GCC spokesperson said the zonal officer of zone 11 (Valasaravakkam) inspected a big textile sales showroom on the Mount- Poonamallee High Road and another major multi-brand retail showroom on the Arcot Road with engineers to check if physical distancing norms, temperature screening and others were properly followed.
The regional deputy commissioner (south) and the zonal officer of Adyar zone inspected security arrangements made for pilgrims visiting at the Annai Velankanni Shrine in Besant Nagar.
