Tamil Nadu Chennai News Live Updates: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday congratulated javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and wrestler Bajrang Punia for winning a gold and bronze medal respectively, at the Tokyo Olympics.

Stalin tweeted, “A remarkable day in the history of Indian sports. My heartiest congratulations to Neeraj chopra for ending the 120 year wait of India to win an athletics gold medal in Olympics. You’ve instilled a new sense of hope in a billion hearts. You are truly a national hero.” The Chief Minister congratulated Bajrang Punia on winning the sixth medal for India at Tokyo in his Olympics debut ‘through a clinical and dominating performance.’

Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings on Saturday announced that Rs 1 crore will be given to Neeraj Chopra, as a mark of his honour and achievement at the Olympics.

Tamil Nadu has recorded 1,969 new cases of COVID-19 and 29 deaths, the Health Department said on Saturday. The fresh cases reported during the day took the total number of infections to 25,73,352 and the fatalities to 34,289 till date. Coimbatore topped the list of new infections with 223 people testing positive. Chennai reported 194 cases yesterday.

The Madras High Court has directed the management of private schools to issue transfer certificates (TCs) to the students who opt for the same without insisting on payment of the fees due, within a week on receipt of applications. Any student or parent, who wants to continue the education in a different school should submit an application in that regard to the transferor school concerned. Immediately after the application is submitted, the transferor school shall issue the TC within a week.
