CHENNAI: A 30-year-old man with two murder cases pending against him in Jharkhand was arrested by city police on Tuesday night.
The accused, Sukar Ganjhu, was working at a construction site in Ennore for the last six months. He was involved in one murder cases and an attempted murder case in his native place. Ganjhu escaped and reached Chennai and found work in Ennore.
A police team from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, traced his location after Ganjhu spoke to his wife from a mobile number. Cops traced his whereabouts and confirmed it was Ganjhu after they received a tipoff about his hideout, and then alerted Madhavaram deputy commissioner Sundaravathanam. A police team led by inspectorDavid went to the quarters in Ennore where construction workers were staying and nabbed Ganjhu. The team also searched his room and belongings.
“There was no seizure from him and he did not seem to be hiding in the city with any plan,” said a police officer. He was part of a contract labour force engaged in construction of a residential apartment complex in Ennore.
Hazaribagh police arrived from Jharkhand to the city and returned with Ganjhu. Earlier, a specialised state unit ‘Q’ branch team inquired with the man about his involvement with Maoists.
