CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation has issued a flood warning to people living in Manali area as 35,000 cusecs of water was being released from the Poondi reservoir. The quantum of water being released from the reservoir might be increased on Friday night due to more water flowing into the river Kosasthalaiyar from Andhra Pradesh.
As many as 62 families have been shifted to corporation-run shelters from Manali Pudhu Nagar phase one and phase two. Residents in Amman Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Jennifer Nagar, RS Nagar and Mahalakshmi slum area have been shifted to Vivekandar High School in Manali.
Corporation commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi met the residents and informed them about the flooding situation. The civic body was using loudspeakers, vans and autos to warn people of the flood alert, he said.
