4-member gang hacks financier to death in Chennai – Times of India

CHENNAI: Four men chased and hacked to death a 36-year-old financier on a busy road in Aminjikarai on Wednesday afternoon. A video of the murder, shot by some motorists, soon went viral on social media before police launched a hunt for the killers.
Around 1.30 pm, police said, Arumugham, a resident of Vaidhyanathan Street in Chetpet who runs a finance company in Anna Nagar, was riding pillion on a bike with his employee Ramesh when four men on two two-wheelers intercepted them near Pulla Avenue. As the assailants set upon Arumugham with machetes even as vehicles were passing by, Ramesh managed to ride away. Arumugham began to run on the main road, believing that someone would come to his help, but the gang members parked their vehicles and gave chase. After catching up with the fleeing man at a road median, they began attacking him with the weapons, unconcerned that the deadly assault was being filmed by passing motorists and others. One of the ‘movies’, shot from a moving car, which showed Arumugham, bleeding profusely from the hands and head, moved netizens after it was posted on social media platforms.
After some people at the spot alerted the control room, a team of the Aminjikarai police rushed to the spot and sent the body for a postmortem to the Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital. A case was registered and police, armed with the help of footage from a few CCTV cameras at the place, began a probe. The registration numbers of the bikes on which the killers came, which were recorded in the video, could come in handy.
Inquiries revealed that Arumugham, who is a bachelor, has a few cases of assault and harassing women pending against him. He allegedly attacked borrowers for defaulting on the dues and threatened them often. Police suspect that Arumugam could have been murdered by someone affected by him. “We have collected footage from a few CCTV cameras. The motive behind the attack is under probe and we have got a few clues and hope to nab the killers soon,” said an officer.
