Chennai: The traffic police have come under fire from netizens for their response – ‘What’s Wrong in It?’ – to a tweet showing a high court judge’s car proceeding in the wrong direction on a one-way stretch in Choolaimedu. The comment went viral on social media. Police had earlier earned praise for fining actor Vijay for having a sun control film on his car and a woman ADGP for travelling in the wrong direction on a one-way road.
While in most incidents, police tag the Twitter handle of the complainant or whistle-blower, their apparent inaction in the latest case raised the hackles of netizens, with some gathering information of the judge and particulars of his vehicle through the Parivahan website and other online portals.
Many people began commenting on the biased action of the men in khaki. Fans of actor Vijay also joined in and demanded prompt action against the judge. On Thursday afternoon, a motorist shot a video with his car camera of a vehicle with a government registartion and national flag going inthe wrong direction on a one-way stretch of Nelson Manickam Road and linked it to the Chennai Police social media page, demanding action. This post is going viral.
The Chennai police’ post, asking what the problem with the vehicle was despite the fact that the driver had clearely violated the rules has come under great criticism. Senior traffic police officers were not available for their comments in this regard.
