Chennai techie dies after wall of dilapidated building collapses – India Today

By Shilpa Nair: A 22-year-old woman died in Chennai’s Thousand Lights area on Friday after the wall of a dilapidated building which was being demolished fell on her. The woman has been identified as Padma Priya from Madurai who worked as a software engineer.

Priya was walking to her office along with her friend from the Thousand Lights metro station when the incident happened. After the wall fell on her, locals tried to rescue her and called an ambulance.

Rescue service personnel and police officers reached the site of the accident and removed her from under the debris. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but the doctors declared her brought dead.

Officials said they suspect that the wall might have collapsed due to the heavy vibrations from the machines that were being used to demolish the building.

A case has been registered at the Thousand Lights Police Station in connection with the incident.
